Frequency Converter Braking Resistor

Scope of Application

In the variable-frequency speed control system, motor deceleration and stopping is achieved by reducing frequency. At the moment when reducing frequency, rotor current phase almost changes 180 degrees and the motor turns from the power-driven state to the electric power generation braking state. Motor’s regenerative energy needs to be consumed away in the form of thermal energy by installing a brake resistor on the converter’s DC side. This is currently the most economical and the most direct treatment scheme.
